Biography
Running back Jimmie Robinson is back for the 2024 season. Robinson captured three All-IFL honors last season. He was an All-Rookie selection, a Second-Team kick returner and an All-First Team running back.
Robinson led the IFL in rushing with 915 yards. The 5’ 8”, 180 lb. product of Bethune-Cookman was fourth in the league in carries with 161 and had the sixth best rushing average with 5.7 yards per carry. He was also third in the IFL with 28 rushing touchdowns and third averaging 65.4 rushing yards per game.
A former undrafted free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2019, Robinson was fourth in scoring with 14.9 points per game. As a kick returner he averaged 21.2 yards per return placing him ninth in that department and his three touchdown returns were second in the league. His 138.0 yards of total offense per game led the IFL. He also had 27 receptions for 316 yards and three touchdowns. Robinson set or equaled IFL single game season highs in touchdowns with six, rushing touchdowns (six), 36 points and 163 rushing yards against Iowa. After just one season, Robinson owns seven single-game, 13 single-season, and eight all-time Pirates records. At the end of last season he signed with the New Orleans Breakers of the USFL.
A Native of Palm Coast, FL, Robinson, who was a two-time FCS All-American and All Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference selection as a wide receiver and kick returner, began his collegiate career at Mercer University in Macon, GA in 2015 where he played in 11 games, making seven starts. That season he was a Southern Conference All-Freshman Team selection. He would later transfer to Bethune-Cookman University.
In 2018 he found the Daytona Beach, FL school to his liking and had an impressive season, leading the Wildcats in scoring with 68 points and all-purpose yards with 1,512. Robinson led the MEAC in all-purpose yards and kick return yardage. His kick return average of 33.2 yards was fourth in the nation. Against Howard, he established a single-game record for the Wildcats with 202 kick return yards while returning two for touchdowns in that game. At the end of season he earned MEAC All-Conference and FCS All-American honors.
In 2019 he followed that up with 39 receptions for 468 yards and four touchdowns while adding another 880 yards on 33 kickoff returns. That season his best day returning kicks was against the Miami Hurricanes when he had six attempts for 103 yards with a long of 43. His best receiving day was against Morgan State with five receptions for 136 yards and three scores. At season’s end, Robinson was an FCS All-American, a MEAC First-Team All Conference return specialist and an All-Conference Second-Team offensive selection.
Robinson finished his career at Bethune-Cookman with 59 receptions for 753 yards and eight touchdowns. He accumulated 536 rushing yards on 63 carries with four scores and returned 55 kickoffs for 1,610 yards with four touchdowns. He also returned three punts for 38 yards.
The IFL is his third professional stop on his football journey. Robinson signed with the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League in 2021.
