LOWELL, MA - The Massachusetts Pirates have signed defensive back Darius Williams for the 2024 season. Williams has professional experience having played for both Edmonton and Montreal in the Canadian Football League.
The 5',10" 195 DB played in 31 CFL games making 39 tackles, 11 stops on special teams, recorded two interceptions and forced one fumble.
In 2021 Williams joined the Edmonton Elks and appeared in 14 games. He made a season high 10 tackles vs. Calgary and finished the season with 30 stops. In 2022 the St. Petersburg native was a member of the Montreal Alouettes. That season he saw the field in 17 games making nine tackles, made five more on special teams and notched two interceptions. His signature game was against Toronto where he made five tackles and recorded an interception. In October of 2022 he joined the practice squad of the Ottawa Redblacks and remained with them until May of 2023.
Williams played collegiately at Carson-Newman. During his four years with the Eagles, the computer science major played in 41 games, made 179 tackles, had eight interceptions, one sack, 15 tackles for a loss, recovered two fumbles and broke up nine passes.
Twice Williams was All-Region selection. In 2017 he was named to the All-South Atlantic Conference First-Team. That same season he was named an All-American by Don Hansen's Football Gazette. In 2019 he was an All-SAC Second-Team Selection. That season he recorded a career high 13 tackles against the Highland Cavaliers. Williams finished his collegiate career by playing in the 2020 East-West Shrine Bowl.
