WORCESTER, MA - As the Indoor Football League 2022 regular season comes to a close, the league has announced the selections for the All-IFL First Team. Wide receiver Thomas Owens and defensive back Aarion Maxey-Penton were selected to the All-IFL First Team.
Wide receiver Thomas Owens was statistically one of the most dominant wideouts in the league throughout 2022. This is the second year in a row that Owens was selected to the All-IFL First Team. The FIU alum picked up right where he left off after ranking top three in the majority of the receiving statistics during 2021 and put on an even better showing this season. The Pirates top target recorded 67 receptions (2nd), 899 receiving yards (1st), 21 touchdowns (2nd), and 58.5 average yards per game (3rd). Owens has been racking up the statistics since he joined the Pirates in 2019 and broke the Pirates All-Time receiving touchdown record during Week 14.
Defensive back Aarion Maxey-Penton gave offensive coordinators' a headache when gameplanning around him throughout this season. The Missouri alum led the league in interceptions with seven and ran back two of those takeaways for a "pick-six." Those takeaways helped Maxey-Penton tie the Pirates All-Time interceptions record in the regular season with 12. The native of St. Louis made it difficult all season for receivers to reel in passes as he ranked third in passes defended. Maxey-Penton's stellar play in his second season with the Pirates helped him be selected for his first All-IFL team honor.
Thomas Owens and Aarion Maxey-Penton made a massive impact on the Pirates throughout the 2022 season and helped propel the team to the playoffs.
