Massachusetts Pirates

Defensive Back Momodou Mbye has re-signed with the Massachusetts Pirates for the 2024 season. The 6'0", 200 lb. DB made 11 starts in 12 games played during the 2023 regular season. He contributed 67 tackles with 3.5 tackles for a loss. He also recorded three interceptions while breaking up one pass and causing a fumble. Mbye also started in the Pirates’ playoff game in Sioux Falls making six tackles including one for a loss. 

In 2021 and 2022 Mbye was a standout for the Green Bay Blizzard in the Indoor Football League before joining the Pirates. 

In 2022 Mbye appeared in 14 games and tallied 108 tackles (71 solo with 37 assists). He recorded four interceptions, a forced fumble and had a fumble recovery. For these efforts he was named to the 2022 All-IFL Second Team Defense.

Mbye gained the attention of the Pirates as he had 18 tackles, an interception and broke up a pass in two games against Massachusetts in 2021. In two games last season vs. his new team, he recorded 20 tackles with two of them for a loss.

Mbye’s first IFL season was in 2021 as he appeared in nine contests for the Blizzard making 52 total tackles with 22 solo stops and 30 assists. He had two tackles for loss, three interceptions, a fumble recovery and broke up three passes. 

The Pawtucket, RI native played his college football at the University of Rhode Island where he was named the team captain in his senior season.
Mbye played in 44 games for the Rams and made 193 total tackles with 5.5 tackles for loss, intercepted nine passes and defended 23 others. He forced three fumbles and recovered six more. Mbye played both cornerback and safety during his four seasons at URI.
