Massachusetts Pirates

Originally from Pretoria, South Africa, Nell began his kicking career in Rugby. In 2017, he made a significant transition by relocating to the United States to pursue a career in American football. However, it was in 2018 that Nell truly made his mark, joining the Maine Mammoths of the National Arena League (NAL) and setting a new league record with 13 field goals. As a rookie, he achieved a 52-of-66 success rate on PATs, scored the league's first dropkick, made 11 deuces, and totaled 99 points, earning recognition as an All-NAL Kicker.

In 2019, he was promoted to the Baltimore Brigade in the Arena Football League from the Cedar Rapids River Kings. Prior to that, he led the IFL in both field goals made and attempted and boasted the league's second-longest field goal at 50 yards.

In April 2021, the Canadian Football League (CFL) launched a global draft specifically for international players outside of Canada and the United States. During this draft, Nell was chosen in the third round by the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Unfortunately, he did not secure the starting kicking position and did not play in any games that season.

Also in 2021, Nell joined the Green Bay Blizzard, playing in seven games and successfully converting nine field goals with the tenth-highest kicking accuracy in the league, making 40.9 percent of his attempts. His standout performance that season occurred against Massachusetts, where Nell made two impressive long field goals, a deuce, and executed his first successful career onside kick. Following this memorable display against the Pirates, Nell earned recognition as the Special Teams Player of the Week.

Nell's addition to the Massachusetts Pirates roster promises to bring a new dimension to the team's special teams unit. His proven prowess in Arena Football and previous accolades underscore his capabilities as a skilled kicker.
