LOWELL, MA - The Massachusetts Pirates have signed defensive back
Cyrus Fagan and linebacker
Jaiden Woodbey. Both were teammates while playing for the Florida State Seminoles from 2018 through 2020.
Fagan, who checks in at 6'1", 191 lbs. played four seasons in Tallahassee from 2017 through 2020. He then finished his collegiate career at North Carolina State playing for two more years. A native of Daytona Beach, FL, Fagen played 30 games for the 'Noles and recorded a then season high 41 tackles in just eight games in 2019. At NC State he appeared in 15 games. In 2022 he played in 13 games for the Wolfpack and recorded 51 tackles which was his career high for a season. His combined collegiate totals saw him in 45 games with 132 tackles with 3.5 tackles for a loss. He also had two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and four passes broken up. After college Fagan signed as an undrafted free agent with the Buffalo Bills and took part in their rookie minicamp.
Woodbey has played both linebacker and defensive back. From 2018 through 2020 he played at Florida State where he burst onto the scene, being named to the ESPN Freshman All-American Team. That season he was also a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic Team and the ACC Honor Roll.
A 6'0", 222 lb. product of Fontana, CA, Woodbey started 22 of his 24 games at FSU and notched 105 tackles. In 2021 through 2022 he went on to play at Boston College where he was a two-time All ACC Honorable Mention selection. In 2022 he recorded 75 tackles for the eagles which was a single season best.
His combined college stats saw Woodbey play in 46 games with 236 tackles with 10.5 for a loss. He had two sacks along with three fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and three quarterback hurries. Woodbey had two interceptions and broke up seven passes. In 2023 he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Rams. After attending rookie minicamp, he was released, then re-signed and released before the start of the 2023 NFL season.
The Pirates have also traded DB De'Jahn Warren to the Jacksonville Sharks and the rights to DB Chris Ingram to the Tucson Sugarskulls, both in exchange for future considerations. Warren had appeared in 2 games for the Pirates this season and Ingram was a core member of the Pirates secondary in 2023, he recently had his rights reverted to the Pirates roster following the end of his league suspension.Â
