WORCESTER, MA – The Massachusetts Pirates have announced that they have made a switch to their uniforms for the remainder of the 2023 and beyond. Replacing their aqua and navy uniform sets with an orange and green set.
Pirates Co-Owner, President, and General Manager Jawad Yatim spoke on the uniform change Friday night:
"You know, I think our fans would appreciate a uniform set that really pays homage to the history of pirates. Not a lot of people know this, but pirates have a rich history in Irish culture. Since childhood, I've been fascinated by Pirates, and just recently I made the discovery that Ireland was actually 'Pirate Central' in the early 1400s. Clans like the O'Malley, O'Flaherty, O'Sullivan and O'Driscoll ruled the ocean waves back centuries ago and deserve our attention. I think our players, coaches, staff, and most importantly, fans can appreciate the culture that we're trying to not only pay homage to abroad. But the rich history of Irish folks here at home. I can't wait for everybody to see these uniforms in action this Sunday at home versus the Bay Area Panthers!"
The uniforms have already seen positive results from the players in the locker room. They're all raving and mesmerized by the new look.
Quarterback
Alejandro Bennifield had this to say about the new look:
"It's great to include Ireland and our Irish fans in our organization. Irish pirates never get the respect or attention they deserve, and we're just trying to raise awareness and be as accurate as we can when we dawn the Pirate logo on our helmet."
Fans can expect to see the new uniforms and logos debut sometime this week. As well as seeing them in action this Sunday at the DCU Center in our home meeting with the Panthers!
