2019 Massachusetts Pirates Ownership

  • Jawad Yatim - Founder, Owner, President, General Manager, Director of Player Personnel & Director of Sponsorship Sales

In 2017 Jawad Yatim envisioned an arena football franchise playing in Massachusetts. In 2018 he made that dream a reality when the National Arena League granted Yatim and his father, Hassan, a franchise of their own. It was hard to tell that the Pirates were a new addition into the league as Massachusetts went 11 and 5 in the regular season and secured the top seed in the playoffs.

Yatim, a graduate of Shrewsbury High School in 2008, led his team to a state championship and undefeated 13-0 record as a senior quarterback, leaving school as the all-time leading passer. Yatim would go on to attend Milford Academy, Dean Junior College, Bethune-Cookman University, Assumption College, while ultimately graduating from Mt. Ida college leaving as the 3rd all-time leading passer in school history, a two-time all-conference selection and All-American honorable mention. Following his college career, Yatim would go on to play two seasons of Arena and Indoor football for the Cedar Rapids Titans, Billings Wolves, and Tri-Cities Fever of the Indoor Football League (IFL), and the Dalian Dragon Kings of the China Arena Football League (CAFL).

As General Manager and Director of Player Personnel, Yatim’s eye for talent has led to the Pirates having the most players signed or drafted to either the AAF, XFL, CFL, or NFL in all of Arena Football since their inaugural season in 2018.

The Pirates success in 2019 went far beyond making the playoffs for the second straight season. Yatim took pride in making the Pirates a great corporate citizen as the franchise to date has partnered with over 30 civic groups and non-profit organizations, giving back to the communities across the state of Massachusetts. For their efforts in 2019, the Pirates were tabbed as having the Best Community Relations in the National Arena League.

Yatim who earned a degree in English, has used his media savvy to promote the Pirates. In 2019 the Pirates were honored by the National Arena League as having the league’s Best Media Relations Department, led by the hiring of Media Content and PR Director Mick Moninghoff.

Not only did Yatim put a top flight product on the field, but he secured the rights to have his organization appear on a major sports television network (NESN) and assembled a broadcast team comprised of one of arena footballs’ all-time quarterbacks in J.J. Raterink, and Moninghoff, an international Emmy Award winning play-by-play announcer.  His social media prowess quickly made the Pirates one of the most “followed” teams in the National Arena League.
