Sean Brackett is entering his third season as the Pirates starting quarterback. His highest accolades with the team include 2018 NAL MVP, 2018 NAL All-Second Team, and 2019 NAL All-Second Team. Brackett has been a team captain for the Pirates every season.
In 2018, the Pirates inaugural season, Brackett helped lead the team to the NAL’s top record (11-5), the number-one seed in the NAL playoffs, and the league’s top-scoring offense (total points). His 226.4 passing yards/game and 7.6 yards/passing ranked first among NAL quarterbacks. Brackett also finished second in passing yards, passing efficiency, passing yards/completion, passing completion percentage, and passing touchdowns. He added 111 rushing yards and 4 rushing touchdowns as well.
A year later, Brackett led the Pirates to the playoffs again, this time as the NAL’s third seed with an 8-6 record. After beginning the season with a 1-4 record, Brackett helped the Pirates rack off six consecutive wins, averaging 59.5 points/game in the process. By season’s end, the Pirates had the third-highest scoring offense in the NAL.
Brackett experienced a high volume of throws in 2019, as he led the league in passing attempts and completions. He also ranked second among quarterbacks in passing touchdowns, passing yards, passing completion percentage, passing efficiency, and total touchdowns. Brackett finished with a team-high 12 rushing touchdowns. In his first career playoff start with the Pirates, he completed 21 of his 40 passing attempts, threw for 298 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, and one interception.
Prior to his playing career with the Pirates, Brackett played professionally in the Arena Football League (2015-2017) for the Washington Valor, Las Vegas Outlaws, and Jacksonville Sharks. He also played for the Qingdao Clipper of the China Arena Football League in 2016 and made an appearance for the Canadian Football League’s Saskatchewan Roughriders at their 2018 minicamp.
Brackett attended Columbia University and became the team’s full-time starter at quarterback as a sophomore. His most notable accomplishments at Columbia include being selected as a member of the 2010-19 All-Decade Team, 2011 team captain and Honorable Mention All-Ivy League, and two-time Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week and First-Team All-Ivy League in 2010. He was also named Ivy League Rookie of the Week once in 2009. Brackett majored in Sociology at Columbia.
