Martez Carter was a standout player at Grambling State University for three years from 2014-2017 where he helped them win back-to-back SWAC titles in his final two seasons. In 48 career games with GSU, Carter totaled 2,628 rushing yards and 29 rushing touchdowns. The 5’7 210 pound back, known as “Mr. Excitement” from his days at GSU was also effective through the air, catching over 70 passes, for 961 yards and 9 touchdowns.

The Monroe, Louisiana native went undrafted in 2018 but wound up signing with the Washington Football Team and stayed until the end of training camp before being released. Carter got another opportunity in the NFL and signed with the New Orleans Saints later that year, but wound up getting cut in the spring.

In 2020, the versatile back signed with the Los Angeles Wildcats of the XFL, where he was known for his standout performance in week 3 against the DC Defenders. In that game, Carter finished with 34 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on just 11 carries, averaging 3.1 yards per carry. Carter also had 3 catches for 41 yards and a touchdown in that game. Carter remained with the Wildcats until the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Carter signed with the Pirates on May 28th 2021, midway through the season. Mr. Excitement appeared in three games for the Pirates in 2021, totaling 122 yards on 26 attempts for an average of 4.7 yards per carry. He scored one touchdown and averaged 40.7 yards rushing per game. In his first season with the Pirates, Carter was a United Bowl champion. 2022 will be his age-29 season.
