‘The Captain of the Ship’s’ quest to play professional football goes back to his high school days in his home state of Florida. At Flagler Palm Coast High School, he was a first-team Class 5A all-state selection and committed to the University of Cincinnati.
Gilyard was selected in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft which held a star-studded cast of receivers that included Dez Bryant, Antonio Brown, Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders, and Golden Tate.
After spending time with the St. Louis Rams, New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs, and Philadelphia Eagles, Gilyard found his groove inside the walls of arena football.
In 2018, Gilyard was entrusted by the Yatim family to bring leadership to their brand new arena football organization. With 69 receptions, 747 receiving yards, and 19 scores, he did just that.
The second verse was better than the first. With 84 receptions, 950 receiving yards, and 29 touchdown passes, Gilyard earned First-Team All-NAL honors for the first time in his career.
Gilyard has also taken the reins as Defensive Backs coach over at Nichols College.
