The Massachusetts Pirates continue to bolster their ever-growing secondary.
The team has officially signed Lawrence Austin.
Austin though smaller than most cornerbacks, made one of the biggest impacts at the position in the National Arena League last season. The Georgia Tech alum totaled 10 interceptions and two returned for touchdowns.
The First-Team All-NAL cornerback is looking forward to getting back on the field.
“I’m just excited to get back to work,” Austin told masspiratesfootball.com. “Just doing what I need to do to help the team.”
The depth on the cornerback roster is fortified with returning members Kiante Northington, Cheatham Norrils, and Al Louis Jean. Austin is looking forward to see what they can do, including the new names Tevin Homer and Dominick Sanders.
“We just all got to go out there and do our jobs,” Austin said. “We will see what we can do when we meet each other on the field.”
Pirates general manager Jawad Yatim is excited to have Austin back not only for his presence on the field, but as a great team member off the gridiron.
“Lawrence was a dependable player for us last year,” Yatim said. “He has experience playing in the middle of the secondary and not everyone has experience doing that. Great guy off the field, always does everything right for us definitely glad to have him on board.”
