Pirate Nation has been licking their chops for a Pirates home game and they finally get it. The home opener is scheduled for May 22nd at 7:30 PM/ET at the DCU Center in Worcester. The Pirates face a tough opponent in the Shock, as the franchise is attempting to make history in 2021 by winning their third indoor football championship in three different leagues.
The Spokane Shock is a team steeped in arena/indoor football history. They are the only franchise to win both an ArenaCup, in 2006, and the ArenaBowl, in 2010. The team’s overall regular-season record since its inception in 2005 is a stellar 134-50 (.728 winning percentage). In 2016-17 the team played as the Empire but in ‘19 a group led by former NFL All-Pro defensive tackle, Sam Adams, bought the team and reinstated the original name. The Shock is back with Head Coach Billy Back. He, along with his staff, intends to bring another championship to Spokane. The Shock are also led by quarterback Charles McCullum, the 2016 and ‘17 IFL MVP who is just 1,000 yards short of the all-time indoor passing mark. The last time the Pirates played an official game in 2019, Coach Back and McCullum were on the winning end for the NAL’s Carolina Cobras. Expect this matchup to be full of redemption for Massachusetts.
