The Massachusetts Pirates coaching staff has gotten a little deeper hiring Gerald Snay as special teams coordinator, defensive line and linebackers coach.

Snay is happy to contribute to the staff,  praising both offensive coordinator Reggie Gray and defensive coordinator Timothy Shelley.

“The experience level that coach Gray and coach Shelley have at this level is amazing,” Snay told masspiratesfootball.com. “I believe that they’re ready to take the next step with the organization and bring the Pirates a championship.”

Snay, 52, coached high school and college football for 10 years each with numerous roles. Snay also dabbled in the arena game for two years.

“I coached at Worcester State, was the defensive line coach at Fitchburg State, and was the special teams coach at Nichols College. “I have experience from the New England Surge and helped Roy Lucas and Rick Buffington build the organization from the ground up. We put a great product on the field.”

Snay has a very special tie to Pirates owner Jawad Yatim mentoring him in his playing days. Yatim is excited to reunite with Snay for the upcoming season.

“I’ve known coach Snay since I was in high school and I am very familiar with him and how serious he takes [coaching],” Yatim said. “He takes pride in his work and is absolutely a great guy. Glad to have him and looking forward to competing side by side with him this coming season.”
