IFL’s Top WR Re-signs with United Bowl Champs – Presented by Phoenix Communication, Inc.

WORCESTER, MA – Wide receiver Thomas Owens, who led the Indoor Football League in receptions and receiving yards, has re-signed with the United Bowl Champion Massachusetts Pirates. Owens had 77 catches last season and was the only IFL receiver to surpass 1,000 receiving yards as he amassed 1,014.
The 6’1” 207 lb. Owens was a unanimous selection to the All-IFL First Team Offense as he pulled in the longest TD reception of the season (45 yards), ranked second with 27 touchdown receptions and averaged 59.6 receiving yards per game. The Florida International alum ranked third in the IFL with 176 points and receptions per game with 4.5. He finished fifth averaging 13.2 yards per catch and was sixth averaging 10.4 points per game.
A product of Boynton Beach, FL, Owens had a 12-yard touchdown catch in the Pirates 37-34 overtime win vs. the Arizona Rattlers in the United Bowl as Massachusetts claimed its first ever championship.
Twice Owens was named the IFL’s Offensive Player of the Week as he pulled in eight catches for 105 yards and a 17-yard touchdown in a 36-18 win over the Bismarck Bucks in Week 3. In Week 12, he again had his way with the Bucks with another eight reception game. In that contest he compiled 145 yards and three touchdowns in a 43-38 victory.
The Offensive Rookie of the Year in the National Arena League in 2019, Owens had three TD receptions in his first ever IFL game in a 49-18 win over the Louisville Xtreme and he pulled in three touchdown passes and ran for another score in a 55-19 victory over the Iowa Barnstormers at Phoenix Field at the DCU Center.
In 2018 Owens signed with Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League after receiving Conference USA First-Team honors at FIU where he finished third in career touchdown receptions with 21, just one behind Cory McKinney and three back of T.Y. Hilton. Owens was fourth in career receiving yards with 2,177 for the Panthers and sixth with 157 career receptions.
