WORCESTER, MA – The Massachusetts Pirates, Champions of the Indoor Football League, have re-signed defensive back Aarion Maxey-Penton for the 2022 season. Maxey-Penton led the IFL with two interception returns for touchdowns last season and amassed the most interception return yards with 121 which included a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown, the longest in the league.

The 5’-9”, 185 lb. d-back had his best performance in the United Bowl victory over the Arizona Rattlers when he deflected a pass which was intercepted by Santos Ramirez, recorded an interception against quarterback Drew Powell, the IFL’s Most Valuable Player, and recovered a fumble by Powell in overtime which led to the Pirates’ game winning field goal in the 37-34 win.

A former All-SEC First Team performer at the University of Missouri, Maxey-Penton played in 14 games and was second in the IFL with seven interceptions, fourth in the league with 17 passes defended and fifth with ten passes broken up.

The St. Louis, Missouri native was the fifth leading tackler for Massachusetts with 56 (41 solo and 15 assists). He also had three tackles for a loss in his first season of indoor football.

An undrafted free agent who was signed by the Los Angeles Rams in 2017, Maxey-Penton signed with the Ottawa RedBlacks in 2018 and earned playing time with the Montreal Alouettes in 2019. He also signed with the Generals of The Spring League that same season.
