WORCESTER, MA – The Massachusetts Pirates, reigning champions of the Indoor Football League, have promoted Mark Stoute to offensive coordinator for the 2022 season. Stoute joined the organization last June as a senior advisor to Head Coach Patrick Pass’ staff.

When Stoute came aboard, the Pirates were a game over .500 and were ninth in the IFL in scoring, averaging 36.7 points per game. After his arrival the team did not lose another game and the winners of the United Bowl finished third in the league, posting 43.8 points per contest. During that span, Massachusetts established single game season highs with nine touchdowns and 68 points in a win over Arizona and most yards passing (214) and five TD passes in a victory over Bismarck.

Pirates President and General Manager Jawad Yatim signed the former head coach of the Louisville Xtreme when that organization folded after five games last season, knowing the move would pay dividends.

“Our team immediately changed when Coach Stoute joined our organization. He has tremendous knowledge of the game, and was a key contributor to our offensive and special teams unit’s last season. He brought a veteran presence to an otherwise young coaching staff and we wouldn’t have won the championship without him. He will be taking the lead of the offense this year and I’m excited to see what he can do with a group like ours, ” Yatim said.

Stoute was prophetic in the comments he made after evaluating the Pirates back in June.

“Athletically they’re not too far off,” he said. “We’re still making a few mistakes and we want to eliminate as many of those mistakes as possible. A lot of it is fixable. We’re a little undisciplined at times. Just like winning is habit forming, losing and mistakes are habit forming if you don’t correct them right away and move forward,” Stoute added.

Stoute has over 25 years of coaching experience and in addition to Louisville, was a head coach in Toronto in the Arena Football League and in the IFL with Cedar Rapids (where he was the Coach of the Year in 2013) and Nebraska. He was at the helm with Jacksonville during their time in the Arena Football League and National Arena League, and has made several stops as an assistant during his career.
