WORCESTER, MA – The Massachusetts Pirates, Champions of the Indoor Football League, have announced their sixteen-game schedule for the 2022 season. The path to a second consecutive title features eight home games and will see the Pirates facing five opponents for the very first time.

Massachusetts will begin its title defense and look to extend its winning streak to 12 games in week one on Saturday, March 12th, 7:00pm at Phoenix Field at the DCU Center as they host the Frisco Fighters. The evening will be highlighted by the unfurling of the 2021 championship banner that will be hung from the rafters.

Pirates President and General Manager Jawad Yatim knows just how much more special opening night will be. “Growing up and going to games in which our home teams would drop banners was always a thrill, however to do it at home with your own organization is truly special and we can’t wait to do it on March 12th against Frisco in front of Pirate Nation. We also look forward to competing against five new organizations this season, as this will give our fan base a nice mixture of familiar rivals and fresh variety within our schedule,” Yatim said.

In week two the Pirates take to the road for a game in Spokane vs. the Shock on Friday, March 18 at 10:05pm and conclude the first month of the season with a bye in week three.

April will see the Pirates playing four times beginning with a week four matchup against the Quad Cities Steamwheelers on Sunday, April 3 at 1:00pm. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two clubs. Massachusetts will then embark on a two-game road trip with a week five meeting against the Bismarck Bucks on the 10th at 4:05pm, followed by a week six jaunt to Green Bay to face the Blizzard on Saturday the 16th at 7:05pm. The Pirates will end the month at home as in week seven the Iowa Barnstormers travel to Worcester on Saturday the 23rd at 7:00pm.

The month of May begins with a home game, a pair of road games and ends with back-to-back games at Phoenix Field at the DCU Center. In week eight the Pirates will meet the expansion Vegas Knight Hawks for the very first time on Sunday, May 1 at 1:00pm. Week nine has the Pirates in Des Moines with the Barnstormers on Saturday, May 7 at 7:05pm and many will have Saturday, May 14th circled as the week ten matchup will be a rematch of the 2021 United Bowl when the Pirates travel to Phoenix to face the Arizona Rattlers with kickoff set for 9:05pm. The Pirates return home on Saturday, May 21 as they will face the Sioux Falls Storm for their initial meeting at 7:00pm in week 11. Week 12 has Bismarck coming east to Massachusetts on Saturday the 28th with game time at 7:00pm.

Week 13 will be one of the longest road trips of the season as the Pirates drop anchor in San Diego to play the Strike Force in another first-ever meeting on Saturday, June 4th at 10:05pm. The team returns home for two in a row as in week 14 the Saturday, June 11th game is against Green Bay at 7:00pm and on Sunday, June 19th, Spokane is the opponent in week 15 in a 1:00pm start. The Pirates end the month of June on the road in Sioux Falls on Saturday the 25th at 7:05pm in the 16th week of the season.

The Pirates only play one game in the month of July sandwiched between bye weeks, which may be a blessing. Week 17 is a bye week. Then on Saturday, July 9th, the Pirates travel 3,088 miles to San Jose, CA for a first-ever meeting with the Bay Area Panthers. It’s also the latest starting time for Pirates fans on the east coast as the week 18 game kickoff is 11:05pm. Week 19 will be the third and final bye week for Massachusetts which will give them time to recuperate as the first round of the IFL playoffs begin on July 23. Second round games will take place July 30 and the 2022 United Bowl is slated for Saturday, August 13.

This year the Pirates will be in the IFL’s Midwest Conference that includes the Bismarck Bucks, the Frisco Fighters, the Green Bay Blizzard, the Iowa Barnstormers, the Quad Cities Steamwheelers, and the Sioux Falls Storm.

The West Conference will consist of the Arizona Rattlers, the Bay Area Panthers, the Duke City Gladiators, the Northern Arizona Wranglers, the San Diego Strike Force, the Spokane Shock, the Tucson Sugar Skulls and the Vegas KnightHawks.
