WORCESTER, MA – In this new edition of our series showcasing the behind the scenes staff for the Pirates let me introduce Pirates fans to the Director of Operations, Jonathan Charles. I had a chance to talk to Jonathan to learn more about him and what his responsibilities for the Pirates are.

RB: how long have you been with the Pirates?
JC: I started with the Pirates in the middle of March this year.

RB: What did you do before the Pirates?
JC: Before the Pirates I was the regional store manager for Extra Space Storage for the Worcester locations.

RB: What made you want to join the Pirates?
JC: Jawad Yatim was my quarterback in college at Mount Ida. It was a dream of his to own an arena football team in Massachusetts and once he reached out to me it was a no brainer.

RB: What are your responsibilities with the Pirates?
JC: I take care of the day-to-day functions and duties of the football team. For example, I make sure that the practice goes smoothly, I make sure that the players have rides during the week to get their treatments done, I take care of the film and make sure it is working during the practices. During the season when we have road games, I oversee coordinating the travel and making sure the busses are on time to pick us up as soon as we land. I also make sure that we get the best price for airfare, and I also book our hotel stays. I am also very hands on with the players to make sure that they are all satisfied and comfortable with the situation because all of them are away from home. We usually have team activities and team events to prevent the players homesickness from growing.

RB: How do you think the team will do in the playoffs after winning the first two rounds of the playoffs recently?
JC: I think the team will continue to do very well in the championship. We’ve had one goal set in mind and that is to make sure that we bring the IFL championship to Worcester, Massachusetts which hasn’t been done before.

We thank Jonathan for his time and be sure to reach out to him if you have interest in hosting the Pirates on the road.
