WORCESTER, MA – Prior to the Pirates’ regular season finale against the Iowa Barnstormers, the team announced two new signings. One of those signings was linebacker Quentin Gause. Gause played his college ball at Rutgers, before signing with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2016. Gause jumped around the NFL after being cut by the Eagles, including stops on the New England Patriots practice squad, and the Denver Broncos active roster. Gause then took his talents to the Memphis Express (AAF), and the Los Angeles Wildcats (XFL), and now to the Massachusetts Pirates.
Gause joined the Pirates at an exciting time. The team is on a franchise record eight game winning streak, and are getting set to host their first ever home playoff game. Gause was suited up for last Saturday’s game against Iowa, and when asked about his first experience with the Pirates he had this to say “It was an awesome experience, I definitely loved the atmosphere…I could tell this is a winning attitude, guys know when they get on the field they have to perform… I love the atmosphere and I love that mindset”.
For Gause, he joins the IFL’s number one ranked defense. A unit that already has built strong chemistry. The good thing for Gause is throughout his stops in the NFL, XFL, and AAF he has played with some of his new Pirates teammates. When asked about the chemistry of the team Gause said “The chemistry is solid on the team. It’s just the same mindset. There is no one trying to be bigger than the team or anything, everyone’s just looking to accomplish a goal… Super excited to be back playing with some of the guys, the chemistry never left”.
Along with gelling into a team’s chemistry, another important aspect for a new player is learning the playbook. Gause says this is no challenge for him “I’ve been in so many playbooks and I’ve had to learn on the go so many times that it’s become like a norm”.
As the Pirates prepare for their first matchup of the playoffs this Saturday against the Bismarck Bucks, Gause says he can’t wait to hit the field on Saturday, but he knows this is only the beginning… “The goal is to get that championship. That’s where we’re at right now. I came in towards the tail end of the season so there’s one mission and one mission only, get that championship and make history for the franchise”.
Kick-off from Phoenix Field for this round one match-up is set for 7:05 PM. Of course, the best thing about being at home for the playoffs is home field advantage. The Pirates will need the 9th Man to bring it on Saturday night. To support your Pirates and to be part of history at Phoenix Field secure your tickets now!
