Pirates Sign Two Before Facing Iowa – Presented by Phoenix Communications, Inc.

WORCESTER, MA – The Massachusetts Pirates have signed two new players on each side of the ball heading into Saturday nights’ 7:30 regular season finale at Phoenix Field at the DCU Center against the Iowa Barnstormers. Linebacker Quentin Gause, who played in three NFL games in 2016, and wide receiver Juston Christian have been added to the roster.

Gause, 6’0” 235 lbs. from Rochester, New York played four seasons of collegiate ball at Rutgers University where he appeared in 50 games making 24 starts with 190 tackles, 26 tackles for a loss, had three sacks and forced a fumble. In 2015 he was named as a team captain and earned All-Big Ten Honorable mention honors. That season he also was the recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award and was selected to play in the 2016 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. Gause also excelled in the classroom as in 2014 he was named to the Big Ten All-Academic Team. That season he was Rutgers’s Leadership Award Winner. In 2013 he was named to the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team as well.

In 2016 Gause was signed by three NFL Teams, first with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent, then he joined the practice squad of the New England Patriots and in October of that season signed with the Denver Broncos. He was activated in December and saw action in three games making two tackles. After his release from Denver, Gause went north in 2018 with playing time in three games with Ottawa in the Canadian Football League. In 2019 he played in eight games with the Memphis Express of the Alliance of American Football and in 2020 was selected by the Los Angeles Wildcats in the XFL Draft and saw action in five contests.

Christian played four years as a wide out at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York and when he graduated, he had re-written the record book for the Red Foxes. The 5’11” 190 lb. speedster from Owings Mills, MD appeared in 42 games, starting 28 and left as the schools’ all-time leader with 34 touchdown receptions and 4,069 receiving yards. He also set the single season record with 15 TD receptions and tied the mark for most touchdown receptions in a game with three.

He signed with his hometown team, the Baltimore Ravens in 2019 as an undrafted free agent after a pro day that saw him run the 40-yard dash in 4.38; power through 16 reps of 225 pounds and display a vertical leap of 36 inches.

At Marist, Christian was a four-time All-Pioneer League selection and in 2018 was named an FCS All-American. He also led the FCS in yards per receptions as a freshman in 2013 averaging 23.6 yards per catch.

In other moves, the Pirates placed wide receivers R.J. Turner, 6’2”- 215 Louisiana-Monroe, and Isaac Zico, 6’1” – 200, Purdue, on the RTR list. They also have released running back Akrum Wadley, 5’11” – 190, Iowa, from the RTR list.
