WORCESTER, MA – The Massachusetts Pirates have added two wide receivers to its roster as they prepare to meet the Tucson Sugar Skulls on the road this weekend. The latest additions are Octayvius Miles, 5-10, 165 lbs. from Alabama A&M and Kwadarrius Smith, 5-9, 170 lbs. from the University of Akron.
Miles, who hails from Mesquite, TX, most recently went to training camp with the New York Guardians of the XFL. In four seasons at Alabama A&M Miles played in 38 games with 62 receptions for 1,075 yards and nine touchdowns. He also ran the ball 17 times for 115 yards and a score. A two-sport athlete, Miles ran track for the Bulldogs with personal bests of 10.86 at 100 meters, 21.92 in the 200 meter and 6.84 in the 60-meter dash.
Smith signed with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League in 2019 and was granted his release in 2020 as the season was canceled due to the pandemic. At Akron, Smith played in 34 games, started 17 and as a senior, had six receptions for 90 yards in an upset win over Northwestern. As a junior, he was ninth in the nation averaging 21.4 yards per reception. For his college career, the Orlando, FL native had 67 receptions for 1,342 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also had eight carries for 24 yards. Like Miles, Smith was a two-sports athlete running track. His top times were 6.72 at 60 meters, 21.46 in the 200 and 10.29 which enabled him to place second in the 100-meter dash in the 2019 Mid-American Conference Championships. Smith played three seasons for the Zips after transferring from Missouri, where he ran track in 2014.
