WORCESTER, MA. — The Massachusetts Pirates have signed wide receiver Demarcus Ayers to their roster. Ayers is most known for being selected in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In 2017, he spent time on the New England Patriots and Chicago Bears practice squads. He has also logged time in the AAF, XFL, and CFL. Ayers had a memorable career at the University of Houston. He was twice named First-Team All-AAC and was placed on the 2015 Biletnikoff Award Watch List.
Ayers (5’11”, 185 lbs.) spoke about joining the Pirates for the upcoming season.
“I’ve always enjoyed playing football and I’m here to help the team win.”
Yatim spoke highly of Ayers and has the impression the receiver will be utilized quickly.
“He’s a great kid, intelligent and we believe he’ll be able to pick up the playbook quickly and integrate himself within our organization and become a contributor. Certainly happy to have him aboard.”
