WORCESTER, MA. — Nick Gibson, a former running back for Mississippi State University, has been signed by the Massachusetts Pirates for the 2021 IFL season. Gibson spoke with masspiratesfootball.com and is excited about his first opportunity to play professional football.
“Playing pro football is something I’ve always dreamed of. I’m going to come here and compete. However the Pirates want me to contribute, I’ll do just that.”
Pirates president and general manager Jawad Yatim believes Gibson will add good balance to the offensive backfield.
“Nick is a nice change of pace to what we already have with Justin. We believe he has the ability to be a productive player for us and are happy to provide him an opportunity to showcase his ability and continue his journey. Glad to have him aboard.”
Gibson (5’11”, 215 lbs.) played four seasons of college football (2016-19) with the Mississippi State Bulldogs. His best season came as a senior when he set career-bests in rushing attempts with 55, rushing yards with 433, and rushing touchdowns with 6. His career average per rushing attempt was 6.9 yards. Gibson was also a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and graduated in December 2019 with a degree in kinesiology and a concentration in sport studies. He is a native of Birmingham, Alabama.
