Pirates Partner Up with Steward Health Care and St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center On Organization’s First Medical Deal

WORCESTER, MA. — The Massachusetts Pirates have announced their first official medical partnership in the organization’s history with St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton, Massachusetts.
St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, a Steward Family Hospital, is located in the heart of Boston’s Brighton neighborhood. Founded in 1868, St. Elizabeth’s is one of ten Steward hospitals in the state of Massachusetts. St. Elizabeth’s is also a teaching hospital of Tufts University School of Medicine and offers patients access to some of Boston’s most respected physicians and advanced treatments for a full range of medical specialties, including family medicine, cardiovascular care, women and infants’ health, cancer care, neurology care, and orthopedics.
Steward Health Care is the United States’ largest private, tax-paying physician-led health care network and operates 37 hospitals across the nation, in addition to 2 hospitals internationally in the country of Malta. Steward family hospitals serve over 800 communities nationwide and have received the nation’s top awards for quality and safety.
The company employs approximately 42,000 health care professionals, a number that includes over 5,000 physicians. The Steward network includes 25-plus urgent care centers and 100-plus skilled nursing facilities. Steward’s Health Care Network is made up of physicians who care for approximately 2.2 million patients annually and provides more than 12 million patient encounters per year.
The Pirates have announced Thomas J. Gill, MD as Head Team Physician. Dr. Gill, who serves as the Chairman of Orthopedic Surgery for the Steward Health Care System, spoke with masspiratesfootball.com and detailed some of the ways he will be caring for the Pirates.

Dr. Gill previously served as Medical Director for the Boston Red Sox, Head Team Physician for the New England Patriots, and Team Physician for the Boston Bruins. Dr. Gill graduated from Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude in Biology from Harvard College and received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School.
The Massachusetts Pirates will also begin utilizing the Boston Sports Performance Center as a team workout facility and rehab center, which is located within the Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley, Massachusetts. The Boston Sports Performance Center features experienced strength and conditioning specialists, licensed physical therapists and athletic trainers, Boston’s top sports medicine physicians, state-of-the-art equipment, and advanced sports performance programs.
James Terwilliger, president of St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, also spoke with masspiratesfootball.com and is excited to be partnered with the Pirates.
