WORCESTER, MA. — The Massachusetts Pirates have made another splash in off-season free agency by bringing in former Dallas Cowboys NFL draft selection Ahmad Dixon. The addition of Dixon (6’0”, 210 lbs), a defensive back, now has six players signed to the Pirates defensive backfield this season.

Dixon suited up in 5 games for the Bears in 2014 and 11 games overall as a rookie.

Dixon spoke with masspiratesfootball.com and recognized that joining the Pirates will be his first time stepping foot in the Northeast region of the United States.

“I’m excited to see a new part of the country. I’m ready to get out there and showcase my skills.”

Pirates president and general manager Jawad Yatim sees Dixon as a versatile chess piece on the defensive depth chart.

“From what I’ve seen on film Ahmad plays with a lot of energy and passion. He’s very physical, and his ability combined with his size allows him to play multiple positions for us. Look forward to getting Ahmad up here and getting to work shortly.”

Dixon last suited up for the Los Angeles Wildcats of the XFL in 2020 and played in all five of the organization’s games. Prior to that, Dixon had stints in the CFL, with the Edmonton Football Team, and the NFL.

Dixon began his professional football career with the Dallas Cowboys as a seventh-round in the 2014 NFL Draft. He spent training camp with the Cowboys before he was released in September 2014. He then had a quick stint on the Minnesota Vikings practice squad before being added to the Chicago Bears active roster.

After being released by the Bears in November 2014, Dixon spent the remainder of the 2014 NFL season with the Miami Dolphins and Minnesota Vikings. He appeared in three games for each organization.

The Waco, Texas native played college football in his hometown at Baylor University. In four years at Baylor, he was a three-year starter, two-time All-Big 12 Honorable Mention, 2013 All-Big 12 First-Team, and 2013 All-American First-Team. Dixon also participated in the 2014 Senior Bowl and 2014 NFL Scouting Combine.
