WORCESTER, MA. — The Massachusetts Pirates are pleased to announce they have partnered with Habitat for Humanity in the MetroWest/Greater Worcester area.

Habitat for Humanity is an organization that builds affordable homes for local families, helping to provide hope and community in the process. They offer an opportunity for community residents to partner with families in need of housing, working side-by-side with volunteers to build homes.

In addition, Habitat also operates non-profit ReStore home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture, building materials and appliances to the public at a fraction of the retail price. ReStore proceeds go directly to Habitat for Humanity to help build homes. Habitat relies heavily on volunteers to build houses and raise money, which helps raise awareness of how important the cause is.

The Massachusetts Pirates made an appearance at Habitat for Humanity in Worcester back in October. Kevin Maguire, ReStore Director at Habitat for Humanity in the MetroWest/Greater Worcester area, spoke with and says members of the Pirates were a great help.

“They came in and were collecting donations, merchandising, putting things out. They were also tagging items and putting them out on the floor.”

Julia Burkhardt, Pirates director of community outreach, was at the local ReStore in October and helped the partnership come into fruition.

“I thought it was a great experience being able to work more behind the scenes. Often, we do events where the public is around, and we are directly reaching out. However, at Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore, you are helping organize, unload, and collect donations. It is extremely rewarding to see how generous our community is while doing this!”

The Massachusetts Pirates look forward to participating in the future with the local Habitat for Humanity organization.
