WORCESTER, MA. — About a week following the Massachusetts Pirates unveiling of their very own foundation, the arena football team is taking another big step in the community, as the Pirates are happy to announce a partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Worcester for the holiday season. The Pirates will be instituting a holiday toy drive under the Massachusetts Pirates Foundation, which will provide a helping hand to the local youth.

The Toy Drive will run from December 1st through December 17th. The Pirates will be setting up two toy drop off locations where people will be able to donate gifts, and these gifts will end up in the hands of children in need. The drop off locations will be at the following locations:

  • Gulf Station in Kelley Square (185 Madison St, Worcester 01610)
  • Mobil on Park Avenue (185 Park Ave, Worcester 01609)
  • Gulf Station on Pleasant Street (528 Pleasant St, Worcester 01602)

The Boys and Girls Club of Worcester serve about 8,000 youth annually, and of those, 80 percent are either at or below the poverty line. The Massachusetts Pirates recognize this discrepancy and want to help.

Pirates Director of Community Outreach Julia Burkhardt, who also played a pivotal role in the construction of the team’s foundation, spoke with masspiratesfootball.com and sees the Pirates Holiday Toy Drive as a must have, especially during the season of giving.

“The Christmas season is a huge time of year that can really make children realize they may not be as privileged as others. This should absolutely not be the case and every child deserves to feel equally special. Being that the Boys and Girls Club services so many children, partnering with them for this toy drive gives us a great opportunity to really help many people feel as special as possible this year, and the best part is that everyone who donates can help out with this mission!”
