Kiante Northington Training With 2021 Vision

The last couple of months have been anything but ordinary for the Massachusetts Pirates and Kiante Northington who had been prepping his return to the Pirates after spending 2019 with the Atlantic City Blackjacks.

Even with the canceled season, the Louisville native has been productive during this unexpected offseason.

“The offseason has been rocky with all the uncertainty but it’s been a blessing as well,” Northington told masspiratesfootball.com. “I got a chance to get healthier and think about things I want to do after football.”

Northington like the rest of his teammates, finds himself in an unfamiliar position but one that many saw coming.

“I wasn’t surprised that the season was canceled with everything going on,” Northington said. “Definitely was looking forward to getting back on the field though.”

Before the season was canceled, the Pirates had expectations. Northington was expected to be a big part of their success as in 2018, he had 55 solo tackles and 12 interceptions. He will be looking to repeat that success in 2021 and has already begun preparing.

“I just plan on focusing more on my diet and continuing the good habits I’ve picked up,” Northington said. “I ‘ve really got to learn my body more doing this.”

The Pandemic has also made the former Eastern Kentucky star learn to not take the game for granted.

“This virus has definitely made me appreciate playing professional football a little more,” Northington said. “It can be taken from us at a snap of a finger. “

Northington did have some tips for the younger athletes.

“I would advise younger kids to take full advantage of this time and learn their bodies and do a lot of running,” Northington said. “You can never run too much.”
